Diabetes Awareness

Working in the health care industry, I believe that maintaining your health is very important. Here's a great article about diabetes awareness!

How to Prevent Diabetes Through Blood Glucose Test

One of the main parts of the body that is affected by Type 2 diabetes is the pancreas. Many people eat foods that contain high doses of sugar, which turns into glucose in the blood stream. When glucose enters the blood cells, insulin is released by the pancreas so that the glucose becomes a type of fuel for the body to run on. For a person who is living with Type 2 diabetes, all of this makes it difficult for the body to produce the insulin it needs and to use what little is produced. At this point, there is plenty of glucose to be used as fuel for the body, but the cells are not able to find it.

An organization known as the American Diabetes Association is tasked with gathering information about this critical medical condition. America, with its 23.6 million people suffering from diabetes, is a very unhealthy country. Around ninety percent of all its diabetics have the Type 2 condition. A lot of diabetics are overweight, and it is not surprising to note that they also have relatives who are like this. The internal organs (and one’s entire nervous system, too) could end up with critical and lasting damage if you have an excess of glucose in you.

A Diabetic Life

If you exercise healthy living, you can keep Type 2 diabetes in check. Regular routines of healthy people can affect diabetes in a very big way. Eating good and healthy food and engaging in exercise are examples of healthy routines. If you want to avoid health complications, it is best to maintain the glucose level in the recommended range. One common test, the finger prick test, is a good way to check where the blood glucose levels are.

Tracking the glucose fluctuations in your body is done with this test, which is as good as what is known as an HbA1c test. The HbA1c test is used not only to find out the level of your body’s glycated hemoglobin but also to alert you if your glucose levels are high. Most diabetics, according to the A1c test results, maintain a level of around seven percent. The CDC indicates that a forty percent reduction in risks could be made if only people reduced their a1c levels until it reaches seven percent.

Too Much Control

If your a1c levels are below this seven percent mark, studies indicate that this could result into something bad. One particular study done in Lancet and Swedish Medical Center located in Seattle, showed that there is a higher death risk for people who use insulin regularly and those who have a1c median levels. On the contrary, there have been many tests that show that it is also healthy to keep your a1c levels at 7%. According to accredited endocrinologist Matt Davies, the seven percent maintaining level of a1c is all right; still, physicians need to consider their patient’s medical history even before they prescribe the treatment.

Pay It Forward: KFC's Buckets For The Cure

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!

I just received this email from KFC and I absolutely had to pass it on.

Right now all of us can help try to make the largest single donation to end breast cancer forever.

KFC is joining the fight against breast cancer with a national "Buckets for the Cure" campaign, aimed at educating more women and men about breast health, generating support for the cause and attempting to make the single largest donation in the history of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Through May 23rd, KFC will be dedicating special pink buckets to Komen for the Cure, with KFC restaurant operators having donated 50 cents for each pink bucket purchased by the operator before May 9th.

KFC fans and supporters can find out more about the program by visiting bucketsforthecure.com. At the site, you can read stories about people whose lives have been affected by the disease, upload your own story and even make a donation to support breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs.

Check out this You Tube video showing a Louisville KFC restaurant being painted pink. And the Colonel's suit has been changed temporarily from white to pink, that's how committed KFC is to this very worthwhile and urgent cause.
