One of the things I remember the most from my childhood is being able to go on fun family vacations. Sometimes we would go to another state, but oftentimes we would just go up north.  I remember being younger and going to Eagle River and going fishing with my dad. I caught my first fish!  So, I was super excited when offered the opportunity to review the Wild Eagle Lodge in Eagle River.  I was able to go on a Saturday and return on Monday.  It was awesome!

We got there later on Saturday because, well, with four kids and a perfectionist for a husband it never goes as planned.  So, we got there later than I would have liked Saturday night.  I checked in and , let me tell ya...very impressed with the friendliness of staff at the front desk.  She was so friendly and took the time to answer all of my questions and offer suggestions for things to do that evening.  So, off to a good start!  There was a wedding going on when we arrived, so my daughter was excited.  She wanted to see all the pretty dresses, so my husband took her over to sneak a peak while I unloaded the van and checked out the room that we were to be staying in.  I fell in love with everything as soon as we walked in!  It was very spacious and clean!  We actually were able to stay in a two bedroom Lakeside Lodge Home facing the lake.  The scenery was breathtakingly beautiful!  I went right away to check out the balcony and knew immediately I would love eating out there in the morning with the kids.  This condo had two bedrooms (one with a king sized bed and one with two twin beds), two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a dining area.  After we got situated, we decided food was a must.  I called the front desk because I was clueless about where to get good pizza and was happy I did.  She recommended a local pizza place that delivered and it was delicious!  My husband took the older children swimming while I got the baby to sleep and tidied up a bit.  The pool has extended hours in the summer...until 11!  I immediatley knew our family would love that as our kids could swim all day and all night and it would never get old.  So they swam while I took in the scenery on the patio.  After a good swim, my husband took the kids for a walk to exhaust them all.

This was when they caught a toad which showed his love by urinating on my husband!

I have to admit, nature has never been too thrilling for me, so my husband does all that fun stuff.  BUT...I must admit, I may have to reconsider as I absolutley fell in love with the view outside of our room.

So, day two begins!  After a nice night of sleep, I got up with the baby and ran to the store to pick up food to stock up our refridgerator for the remainder of our stay.  There was a Pick 'n Save not too far, so I was very happy knowing I wouldn't be shelling out tons of money on groceries as we usually do when out on a family getaway.  The kitchen was fully stocked, so I was able to make all of my meals without wanting any utencils.  It was great!  After a good breakfast, I took my son for a walk so he could have some "mommy time."  We sat out on the chairs they have surrounding the property on the lake.  We watched people fishing and the boats going by.  After our nice walk, we went back and my husband took my daughter out on a canoe.

They have plenty of water equipment to rent there.  They were able to take out a canoe (FREE of charge for everyone!).  You can take out a canoe, row boat, or kayaks for free.  Or, if you prefer, you can rent pontoon boats or motor boats for a fee.  While they were out, my other three had "quiet time."  I made lunch for us all to eat before we hit the pool for an afternoon swim.

Let me tell you a bit about the pool area...they have one bigger pool (not too deep...I think it only went up to 4 FT 6 IN), one hot tub (children ages six and up could use it!), and one tiny pool for my younger two (this pool at the deepest end was 1 FT 6 IN).  The little pool couldn't have been a better fit for us.  My husband took our older two in the bigger pool while I enjoyed splashing with the two younger ones in the kiddie pool.  After our swim, we went to look at the many movies they have free of charge to "check out" in the main lobby. We picked out four movies to watch while we ate our dinner and enjoyed on and off before we had to leave.  After dinner we prepared for our final swim of the evening.  We all went swimming and my daughter took me for a walk after we finished swimming a little early.  She showed me all the fun stuff they had "explored" with dad the night before.  It was a great night that ended with my hubby and I enjoying some quiet conversation on the patio after getting the kids to sleep.  Honestly, I felt as if we were in another world.  It was so beautiful...so relaxing!

Sigh...we are down to our last day there.  After a good night's sleep, I had to run around getting everything packed and ready to go.  It was great, though, because, even though we were checking out, we were able to  enjoy all of the luxuries throughout the day.  My husband took our children out to the beach area while I packed us up and prepared us for our dreaded ride home.  After we got it all packed and ready to go, we went swimming one last time.  Added bonus?  We ran out of swimmers for the younger two and they had them FREE OF CHARGE at the front desk!  So, it saved us a trip as I was able to scoop those up for our last swim.  Another perk?  They have a complete locker room in their pool area for you to shower and get ready after a long swim.  LOVED THAT!  Then it was good bye to Eagle River.  I can't tell you enough how much I fell in love with the area and the relaxation that it offered to us.  It is a beautiful place that is the perfect getaway.

Check out Wild Eagle Lodge for more information.  They are open year round with plenty of activities to keep you occupied throughout any stay!
