Orders of $35 & up Ships Free.

So, I decided to make my kids some of those no sew tie blankets this year.  They are so warm and I loved the way they looked so much, I decided I am going to make one for myself as well.  The great thing  about these blankets is that I can have the kids help me as well without any worries of them hurting themselves...I just need lots of patience :)  So, I went to fabric.com and saw the great selection of fleece fabrics and was sold!  For the blankets for my children, I went to Walmart and Joanns.  While I liked their selection and prices, I found that I would have saved a bundle had I gone with fabric.com to begin with.  I know for next year anyway.  Right now until January 3, you can save up to 25%
  • Spend up to $60 and save 15% with code XMAS15

Kick Start Your New Years: Exercise Day One: CHAIR DIPS

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
Being a busy mother of four, I hardly have time to exercise.  So, I try my hardest to incorporate it into little things I do every day!  Throughout the month of January, we will be posting not only recipes, but exercises and tips on how to fit that exercise into our busy schedule!  If you know me, I am all about what is easy and most practical for me.  Each day in January, we will do a post on an exercise to do and a tip to work into your daily routine to burn an extra few calories here or there...These exercises will require nothing but you and maybe some basic household items (today is a chair, for example)
Day One Exercise:
Chair Dips
  1. Stand in front of a chair facing away from the chair's seat.
  2. Sit down on the edge of the seat and place your hands behind your hips.                                                                                                                                            Your hands should be on the edge of the seat and shoulder width apart.
  3. Lift your buns off of the seat and walk your feet forward.                                                            Make sure your hands are secure on the chair so that you don't slip off.  Keep your chest elevated and your head up.  Your knees should not bend past your toes.
  4. Slowly lower your body downward.                                                                                             Be careful that your elbows don't bend to an angle smaller than 90 degrees.
  5. Extend your arms, raising your body upward and supporting your weight with your arms.    Beginners can try one set of 6 to 8 reps.  More conditioned exercisers can try three sets of 10 to 12 reps.
  • Park far away from where you want to go.  If it's a store, park at the end of the lot, don't just park in the nearest parking spot!  If you drive to work, park a few blocks away and walk to work.   If it takes you 5 minutes to walk from your car to your desk and another 5 minutes back, then that’s ten minutes of exercise right there!  EVERY STEP COUNTS!  And, make it count too!  I'm not above lifting my grocery bags like dumbbells as I walk to the car after my quick shopping trips...every little bit helps (and it shows, too!).

Kick Start Your New Years: Quick, Cheap and Easy Recipe Day One: CHICKEN POT PIE

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
So, I am not the most experienced or talented cook.  I am always looking for ways to cook on the cheap.  I try to use what I have on hand...and I LOVE the crock pot.  I thought, being a busy mom of four, I would share some of my favorite recipes that are quick, easy, and cheap!  Each day of January I will provide a favorite recipe.  Please let me know what you think.  If there are any suggestions, please let us know!  If this turns out to be a success, we will continue to do this past January.  If not, you will have to wait until next January for some more fun!  So, please leave us some feedback so we know what you think!  If you want to email us to leave comments or suggest your favorite easy, cheap recipe...email us at mymkemommy@gmail.com!  Enjoy!

So, day one I wanted to use one of my family's all time favorite.  I have made it for my sisters and they raved about it.  It is in my weekly rotation at least every other week.  Why?  It's cheap, easy and delicious!  And, it's easy to tweak to your tastes!

Chicken Pot Pie
Ingredients:
  • 2 (9 inch) deep dish frozen pie crusts, thawed

  • 1 (15 ounce) can mixed vegetables, drained

  •           *My sister and husband thought it might be better to use frozen vegetables, but I prefer these
  • 1 lb cooked, diced chicken breasts

  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup

  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup

  • salt, pepper, Season All, garlic salt, and onion powder to taste

  •             *Season to your liking..I usually do a dash of each w/ a little more onion powder & garlic salt

    Directions:
    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
    2. Put one pie crust in the oven to crisp (otherwise the bottom tends to be a bit mushy)
    3. In a bowl combine the mixed vegetables, chicken, cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, and seasonings. Pour mixture into pie crust from the oven. Turn the other crust over and pop out of the tin onto the top of the filled pie. Seal the edges and poke holes in top crust.
    4. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
    5. Cut and let cool for about ten minutes.
    6. ENJOY!
With my little ones, I usually cut the pieces for them as it's cooling and put on plates so their pieces are ready to eat ASAP as the smell gets to them and they want to start nibbling sooner.

Money saving tip:  I usually buy as much chicken as my freezer will hold when it's on sale.  Chicken is in at least three recipes that we make here a week!  It's yummy and a healthier alternative to other cuts of meats.  I personally prefer chicken breasts, but your tastes might be different.
