Kick Start Your New Years: Exercise Day Twelve: Plank

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
Day 12 Exercise:
Plank
  • Lie face down on mat or towel resting on the forearms, palms flat on the floor.
  • Push off the floor, raising up onto toes and resting on the elbows.
  • Keep your back flat, in a straight line from head to heels.
  • Tilt your pelvis and contract your abdominals to prevent your rear end from sticking up in the air or sagging in the middle.
  • Hold for 20 to 60 seconds, lower and repeat for 3-5 reps.
I start shaking after a few seconds on this one, but it works your core something fierce!  It's a great way to help tone your body!

Thanks, About.com!

Day Twelve:  Easy Exercise Tip:
  • Trust in and have an accountability partner.  I find it so much easier to log in my exercises if I have someone to hold me accountable.  That person is the person who will push you and believe in you even if you don't want to do it that day.  So, choose wisely!  Choose someone who you know will be a good push to get you off your tush!

Help to Build a "Field of Dreams"

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
Please vote to help Whitewater Rec build a "Field of Dreams" to honor this sweet little boy!

Treyton Kilar, age 6, was killed in a senseless car crash by a drunk driver on September 2, 2010.  In an effort to create hope out of despair, the Whitewater community has united to build a new baseball field to honor Treyton and provide a happy, healthy place for families and children to come together safely. Treyton's big dream was to someday play professional baseball. He spent countless hours practicing at home and on teams through the Whitewater Parks and Recreation Department.   Although Treyton's dream was cut short by a senseless tragedy, this new ball field will provide our young people with an opportunity to achieve their dreams. By providing a place for family friendly and safe activities, the Treyton Kilar Field of Dreams will provide an alternative to drinking and driving and be a monument to overcoming evil with goodness and love.

People can vote 3 ways for a total of 3 votes a day:  directly through Facebook, from the Pepsi Refresh website, and also by sending a text to 73774 (Pepsi) with the numbers 105550 in the message area.

They are currently in third place and only the first and second place ideas will win!  Please, pay it forward and vote for this awesome cause!  Every little bit helps!

Kick Start Your New Years: Quick, Cheap and Easy Recipe Day Twelve: Slow Cooker Jambalaya

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
Slow Cooker Jambalaya
Ingredients:

  • 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cubed

  • 1 pound andouille sausage, sliced

  • 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes (drained so not too runny)

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 1 large green bell pepper, chopped

  • 1 cup chopped celery

  • 1 cup chicken broth

  • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic

  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano

  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley

  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1 pound frozen cooked shrimp without tails

  • Directions:
    1. In a slow cooker, mix the chicken, sausage, tomatoes with juice, onion, green bell pepper, celery, and broth. Season with oregano, parsley, Cajun seasoning, cayenne pepper, and thyme.
    2. Cover, and cook 7 to 8 hours on Low, or 3 to 4 hours on High. Stir in the shrimp during the last 30 minutes of cook time.
    3. ENJOY!
If you want to add rice, cook it separately and add it with about 15 minutes cook time.  Also, you may want to lessen the cayenne pepper or omit it entirely if you have sensitive eaters.  Or, if you like spicy, add more to it to give it a little more zing!  YUMMY!
