Is your summer flying by like mine?  I planned on reading all the time and was hoping for a book every two weeks-not happening-I better get going!

The Smurfs are a group of over 100 bluish, three-apple tall creatures who live in the mushroom homes of Smurf Village.  They are led by 543-year-old Papa Smurf (who doesn’t look a day over 530).  Their lives would be perfect were it not for their villainous
Gargamel, a wizard who spends his days trying to capture them to eat, turn into gold, or for other evil reasons.  Gargamel’s cat Azrael adds to the menace, always looking for a tasty, Smurfy snack. 

I was so excited when I was offered the opportunity to review this DVD.  This was seriously one of my favorite cartoons growing up!  Every Saturday morning as a child I would set my alarm to make sure I was up in time to watch my Smurfs.  It was the only time (I have five brothers and two sisters!) I could have the TV to myself.  I put this on one afternoon during this heat spell after playing outside thinking my kids would nestle in and doze off to it for naps...nope!  They insisted on staying up and watching every single episode.  When it was over they wanted to watch it again.  It's great that it is so gender neutral!  With an older daughter and younger sons, I am finding it harder and harder to please them all...this was great!  They loved the thought that they were watching a cartoon that I loved when I was their age, too!  This is a super cute compilation of a great cartoon.  The times of cartoons sure have changed and I love the innocence that this cartoon brings back!
