Zulily Shop: NYFirePolice.com Clothing to Honor September 11

Zulily  has some great shops today, but by far my favorite is the NYFirePolice Shop.  No matter where each American was on the tragic morning of September 11, 2001, their hearts were in New York. NYFirePolice.com does that sentiment justice with their collection of 9/11 memorial items that help commemorate one of the most eventful days in American history. NYFirePolice.com will proudly donate a portion of the proceeds from this sale to 9/11 charities.

Where were you when the world stopped turning?

Where were YOU when the world stopped turning on 9/11?  Here is a link to the timeline of the day's events.

Ann's story:
I was a first grade teacher at the time, on the way to work in my classroom.  I was on the freeway and had my CD playing, listening to music.  I had no idea what was happening at the moment.  There was a car in front of me who completely stopped in the middle of the road and I was annoyed.  I never in my life could know, nor will I ever know, why that car stopped in it's tracks.  Did he know someone in the building?  It was an older gentleman and his wife and I will forever feel guilty for getting annoyed at his stopping.  I don't know what he was thinking.  I don't know how he was feeling.  I can't imagine.  So, I drove to work, annoyed the whole way there at this car who slowed me down on my way to work...really?!?  There were more important things going on in the world than my being late to work, I had no idea.  So, I went into my classroom.  Oblivious to all that was going on.  I was co teaching with another teacher who rushed into my room a full hour later and she said, "ANN!  We are under attack!"  Tears streaming down her face.  I had no idea what was going on.  We turned the TV on and went to get our students.  They walked in the room buzzing with excitement about "the cool planes crashing into building."  I sat and cried.  I cried for the innocence they had.  I cried for all of those families.  I cried...for a lot that day!  I made sure to call each and every one of my family members and tell them how much I loved them.  I made sure to hug my husband a little tighter that night.  We were glued to that TV all night as the news was unfolding.  The next morning I turned on the TV in hopes that it was all some terrible nightmare, but I was devastated to find out that it was indeed the truth.

Betsy's Story

I was on my way to my day of classes at UWMilwaukee, I was on the freeway just turning from US41 onto I94 East by the stadium.  I was listening to Bob & Brian and heard them giving details of an accident and then going on as they were getting more details.  I remember everything in a "fog".  I went through my classes-many of which we talked about what was happening as more details came in.  After my classes I headed to work (after school program in an elementary school).  My students knew something was going on, it is difficult to explain to children what is going on without telling them what is going on.  I remember being appreciative of all of the young lives that are entrusted to me each day-something I appreciate everyday.  I also have adopted the thought that today could be your last so tell the people that you love that you love them no matter what.
Many of my participants got picked up early that day from parents that hurriedly came to get them and gave them an extra hug as they arrived.

Where were YOU when the world stopped turning?  Please, let us know.  We want to hear your stories.  We will never forget!  Thank you to all of the heroes that fought for us that day and in the days following.  To those that fought and continue to fight and to those that have lost their lives at the cost of our freedom, may God bless you!

In Memory of 9/11...

...We have decided to go light on the posts as we wanted to spend time with our families today.  We will hug a little harder.  Live a little better.  Say "I love you" a little bit more.  But we will and must NEVER, EVER forget!
