Sometimes finding the right book is all it takes...

Encourage your child to fall into a great book...

I will admit part of my childhood I was not a big reader.  I had a turning point when I was 9 (I think).  I found a book that totally changed my reading.  It was Fun House by Diane Hoh-I still have it.  It is on the line of Goosebumps but for an older crowd (more like Fear Street if you remember those).
Reading that book opened my reading exponentially.  I started reading what are still my favorite authors...Diane Hoh, R.L. Stine, Christopher Pike and others.
Sometimes it is just the right book that makes the difference.  About 10 years ago it was Harry Potter that opened the flood gates of reading for so many children and more recently Stephanie Meyer.
(I have read all the books by those authors as well.)

So my advice is finding the right book for the child who is just not interested in reading.  They will have to read things they aren't always interested in but they can be rewarded with books they really enjoy!

I am not a handmade card maker either (you might remember me saying I am not a crocheter).  My sister in law is awesome!  She makes handmade cards for every holiday and birthday.  They are beautiful.  (I make it sound like I am not creative at all, I like to bead and if you give me something to recycle I can certainly make up a project to do with my kiddos at work.)

I came across this free site with free idea downloads to make cards.  I am passing it along to my sister in law for some inspiration.  With the upcoming holidays it is time to start making those cards if you plan on sending them out on time-I know that making cards is time consuming but I love getting them!  You know that they are appreciated. :)

Review of some great pens from ZEBRA

I was able to review some great pens from ZEBRA Pens.  I had fun trying the Erase Away-this one is my favorite.  After not having to really write over the summer because I am not at work and all I do it type my penmanship leaves something to be desired.  The Erase Away writes smoothly and is a retractable pen, great for when you may stick it in a purse, pocket or backpack.  The erasing is great-check out my picture above.  A clean erase and not a lot of "shavings".

The Sarasa SE is a very nice writing gel pen.  I like being able to see the ink level.  The grip kept my fingers from sliding.  I received two black, one blue and one red.  My sister came over and snagged my red pen for work, I did not tell her I needed to review it.  She called me and thanked me for the pen!  She loves it and has been using it a bit for work-she needs to code things and only really uses red and black for her paperwork.  She said it doesn't skip and is a nice bright color.  She really likes it.  I have been using the other pens at home and work.  What I like is that the pens don't bleed through paper and have a nice clip as I am always looking for a pen and try to keep one on my lanyard with my ID and key FOB.

I consider myself a bit of a pen connoisseur/snob.  I really like these ZEBRA Pens.  One of my aunts loves gel pens so I will certainly be picking up a package of the Sarasa SE for her!

Create account, title your project, invite friends to add pictures, pick your size, decide on a theme-baby, a holiday, a season, there are pre-done designs and a lot of choices, I picked the blank canvas.


Start uploading your pictures!  I was able to select photos from many different folders very easily.
Start creating!
You can add text to the spine of your hardcover book, you can even choose the font  and the color the writing is in.
You start by deciding which picture you would like as your cover.  I love that you can rotate your pictures and really place them on the page-you can make them angled, overlap them and make them bigger or smaller!
It doesn't stop there-you can make your photo black & white or sepia, change the shape (oval, star, rectangle and more), you can add borders or shadows, zoom in on part of the picture, adjust the brightness, crop them (perfect because some of my pictures have dates imprinted on them), there are a bunch of ways to personalize and edit the pages and your photos.


I started my book with a completely blank canvas, I was able to choose my page colors-some look textured or have patterns, you can add text and "stickers" as well.  It really is like creating  scrapbook on line which is absolutely perfect for me because I really don't like actual scrapbooking.  It looks great but I just can't do it but online it is a ton of fun!


There are so many options-I know I didn't even scrape the surface.
