Better Homes and Gardens: Find Great Holiday Gifts and Accessories at Great Prices

I was challenged to find 3 great Better Homes and Gardens items at Walmart priced at $5, $10 and $20.  Let me tell you this was not a tough feat the challenge was choosing what to buy!
 The Better Homes and Gardens line of products really has such a variety of items that the only problem is deciding on what to buy.


My husband and I make a list of who we need to buy for and how much we are going to spend-it really helps us budget our holiday spending.  We also receive a list from our family members so we are not purchasing something they don't want.


Here is what we found...

I always pick up a small gift for my co-workers around the holidays...

I found this great tealight holder ($1.97) and a package of tealights ($2.75) for under $5.00!

My brother in law likes to can.  He cans beans, pickles, cucumbers and other veggies that he grows in his garden every year (my mom always helps). For Christmas he asked for canning supplies!  He gave us a jar of pickles last year and they were delicious!
So since he is now giving his efforts as gifts we thought it would be fun to expand his canning items as well.  We found Regular Pint Jars ($7.00), Fabric Squares ($2.00) and lids ($1.98).  The whole gift is a little over $10!

Then my aunt is currently going through her house and reorganizing and also became a "couponer".  She saw these great resealable containers we have and asked for them as well!  These food saver containers are air tight and easy to use.  We picked up three for her in three different sizes, the largest is $7.97, medium size $6.47 and the smallest size we picked up $4.97= $19.41!!!


We were able to pick up three fantastic gifts for $37.08 with tax.  The Better Homes and Gardens line also has great frames, kitchen items, bedding, gardening and other items.  There is also a whole line specifically for the holiday season.  All of the products are a great value and very well made.

I just watched a eye opening video about battery safety.  I am hoping you will check it out too, it is short but really important.
Batteries are not really something I think about unless something is not working.  As we watched the video my husband and I thought about the kiddos that come into our home and how often they are around battery hazards.  Just the other day my niece was over and my husband had just replaced the batteries in a game controller and hadn't thrown the batteries away.  There she went toddling over to grab it!  YIKES!  In the video you hear about a child who swallowed one of the button batteries (they look like a nickle) and the surgeries he had and the permanent damage he now has to live with all because he swallowed something and really it could have been prevented.

With the holiday gift giving season upon us we know that batteries will be purchased and used we really need to make sure that all screws are tightened and that all batteries are set in place so they don't pop out.  Also young children should not be playing with devices that have the potential to cause harm.  My niece loves trying to get the remote controls and phones and when she has they go straight to her mouth-NOT SAFE!

Please think about the items your child and other kiddos are playing with or might have a chance to get.  I am a big advocate on preventing accidents before they happen.  With a little planning and attention to detail the children we know won't become one of the children they allude to that swallow batteries each year.

Product Review - No Name Steaks

Betsy and I had the opportunity to enjoy some No Name Steaks for dinner.  We picked up the 24oz box of Butcher Quality Original Steaks.

The box had 4 individually wrapped 6oz steaks.  We decided to make two meals out of them, using two steaks per meal.

For our first dinner, we left one steak plain and lightly sprinkled the other with some seasoning.  Preparing these are very simple, just put them under the broiler for around 14 minutes, turning them over half way through, make sure to check them with a meat thermometer to make sure they are done.  We served them with some seasoned and fried diced potatoes and a cheddar and broccoli rice side dish.

For our second dinner, we decided to marinate the steaks.  We used a honey teriyaki flavor.

After a quick 14 minutes under the broiler the steaks are done and ready to eat.



We served these steaks with some seasoned potato wedges and roasted and seasoned whole mushrooms.



No Name Steaks are easy to prepare and turn out moist and very tender.  They are great by themselves but you can choose to season or marinate them to add some extra flavor.  Since they are individually wrapped,  you can make one steak for yourself or please a larger group by making the whole box.  You can prepare them in your oven under the broiler or put them on your grill.  They are a delicious and versatile product that come in various cuts, so you can choose your favorite.  I highly recommend giving them a try when you are looking to have an extra special home cooked meal.
