ALL-NEW WINTER FEST SKATES INTO MILWAUKEE WITH
MORE THAN 50 FUN INDOOR ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES

MILWAUKEE – (Nov 14, 2012) – Winter Fest, Milwaukee’s one-of-a-kind, interactive, indoor winter festival for families, has announced that it will have more than 50 different rides, activities and attractions for children of all ages, including adults.  This year, Milwaukee Winter Fest features a wide variety of new and exciting attractions for children of every age, such as a zip-line to the South Pole, radar snowball pitch, Winter Fest roller rink complete with disco ball, kiddie grand prix, Velcro wall, majestic mountain theatre stage, berry go round carnival ride for little tots, and a polar café where adults can ‘chill out.’ 

With six newly-organized Winter Fest activity zones -- some even designed for tots ages five years old and under -- this year’s Winter Fest is sure to cure cabin fever in the metro Milwaukee area. The festival is coming to town for six days at the Delta Center (formally Frontier Airlines Center) from December 26 – 31 for its second year.

New Milwaukee Winter Fest attractions include:
·         Zip line and slide – One of the largest indoor zip lines in the state.
·         Roller Rink –Skates are free with admission and come in all sizes for kids and adults.
·         Kiddie Grand Prix – Features cars tots ages five and under can race to the finish.
·         Radar Snowball Pitch – Exact readouts show how fast your “snowball” (baseball) can go!
·         Velcro Wall – Kids and adults alike can put on a Velcro-covered suit to run, jump, spring and stick themselves onto the Velcro wall.
·         Wrecking Ball – Up to four players take turns grabbing and hurling the wrecking ball at another player, trying to knock players off their individual inflated pads.
·         Polar Café – Adults can relax and unwind in comfort, use free Wi-Fi and purchase food and beverages.
·         Majestic Mountain Theatre Stage – The premier entertainment stage at Winter Fest.
·         Swing Set – A traditional swing set for tots ages five and under.
·         Tilt-A-Whirl – A fun ride for all ages to spin, twirl and whirl around on this exciting American classic.
·         Disney’s Cars-inspired double slide – Kids can race each other down two speedy slides.
·         Berry Go Round – A traditional carnival ride for little ones.
·         Driving Range – An indoor inflatable golf game that will test the skills of adults and kids alike.


The newly created Winter Fest zones:
§  The Journal Sentinel South Pole Adventure Zone: Specifically designed for kids ages six through twelve. This area features thrilling rides and attractions such as one of the largest indoor zip lines in the state, a holiday bungee run, a Velcro wall, tilt-a-whirl and a rock wall.

§  Igloo Island: Exclusively for tots ages five and under, Igloo Island offers a perfect playground for little ones, such as Crayola castle, kiddie grand prix, tinsel tunnel, tot obstacle, a coloring mural and a swing set.

§  Metroparent Operation MOVE Zone: This area of Winter Fest is dedicated to physical activity. With attractions such as live demonstrations from the Milwaukee Wave, a holiday obstacle course, radar snowball pitch, wrecking ball, and driving range this zone is designed to get kids of all ages moving. It also serves as a check-in area for Operation MOVE participants on Operation MOVE day, Tuesday December 11, at Winter Fest.

§  North Pole Adventure Zone: An area for the young and old to enjoy together, the North Pole consists of traditional carnival rides, as well as a giant snow globe filled with artificial snow for families to explore and capture photos.

§  Peppermint Lane: This area features educational and interactive fun for kids of all ages including ornament making, holiday fingernail art, face painting, picture frame making, airbrush/henna tattoos, sand and sugar art, magic tricks and hair braiding.

§  Holiday Village: Complete with a train ride through holiday-themed buildings that will be fun for the whole family, this “green” zone was built out of local repurposed and reused products to create a village that will rouse holiday memories.                                                                                                      


Tickets and Discount Information:
Tickets are available for pre-purchase online at www.MilwaukeeWinterFest.com now through December 25 at a discounted rate of $12 for children ages 3-17 and $8 for adults 18 years old and older. Children ages 2 and younger are free. Tickets will also be available after December 25 at the door starting at $15 for children ages 3-17 and $10 for adults 18 years of age and older.

Other discounts and special offers include:
·         Children under 2 years old are free
·         Adults are free between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on December 26 and 27
·         Half-off tickets ($8 for children and $5 for adults)
o   Applied half-off discount coupon to be used online until December 25 with codes: WF2012 (children) and WF5012 (adults)
o   Half-off tickets available at participating sponsor locations including Educator's Credit Union and Walther's Model Railroad Equipment, while supplies last
o   Operation MOVE booklet will contain a half-off coupon for adult or child
·         Children are admitted free on Thursday, December 27 if they wear their Operation MOVE United Way t-shirt
·         All adults will receive a $5 food/beverage coupon with every full-priced adult ticket
·         Two drawings daily: 1) At 1p.m.: Four tickets to Chorus Line or American Idiot at the Milwaukee Theatre 2) At 5 p.m.: Family packages valued at over $200 each

*Denotes special activity: Milwaukee Winter Fest will close at 5:30 p.m. on December 31st for a Radio Disney Family Fun New Year’s Eve Celebration.

In addition, Milwaukee Winter Fest will host several special events, such as:

·         Operation MOVE on Tuesday, December 11 at the U.S. Cellular Arena from 10 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. – Thousands of students will move with various entertainers, speakers and local celebrities such as Greg Jennings of the Green Bay Packers, as they are educated on the importance of living a healthy, active life.  Participating students will be challenged with a six-week program to track their fitness and healthy living tasks to win prizes and make life changes.

·         Plymouth Foam EPS Sculpting Competition, December 27-30 – Watch foam-sculpting experts as they carve two holiday-themed displays at Milwaukee Winter Fest. The two-part competition features six local artists who will each carve a sculpture following the theme of winter scenes, characters, folklore or cartoons. The grand prize is $1,000 and the winner will be selected by industry professionals at Winter Fest on December 30 at 5:30 p.m. 

·         Radio Disney’s Family Fun New Year’s Eve Celebration, December 31 – Families with children can ring in the New Year at this event where Radio Disney will entertain them with music, games, prizes, horns, hats, leis and an early countdown at 9:00 p.m.

·         More special events at Winter Fest to be announced at a later date.

While visiting Milwaukee Winter Fest, visitors can stop and chat with Winter Fest’s official mascot, Peeko. This fun–loving penguin is constantly looking for someone to have fun with and is always quick to share a fact about the penguin lifestyle. This is why he has taken over Milwaukee Winter Fest’s Facebook (Facebook.com/MilwaukeeWinterfest) and Twitter (Twitter.com/MkeWinterfest) accounts so that he can share information with Milwaukee area families and beyond.
