Easy Apple Dumplings Reader Recipe!

This sounds easy and delicious!  This would be a great recipe for having friends over or a brunch treat!

Easy Apple Dumplings

1 can crescent rolls

1 large Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and sliced into eight pieces

3/4 stick butter or margarine, melted

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 can Mountain Dew

Roll up each apple slice in a crescent roll and place in baking dish. Mix butter, sugar and cinnamon together and pour over dumplings. Add the half-can of Mountain Dew. Bake in preheated 350-degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes.

Cut Down on Waste this Year! Consider these tips when packing your child's lunch!

School starts for my children in less than a month...yikes!  So, I was glad to get a reminder from The Ultimate Green Store about how much waste goes into lunch packing every year!  Consider these tips next time you are packing your child's lunch.
Each school year, the average student generates 67 pounds of school lunch packaging waste. Multiply that by the number of school-aged kids in the country and that's billions of pounds of waste. Please consider reducing the amount of lunchtime waste your family generates. Think about what you can do to cut down on waste.  Here are a few suggestions for getting started:
 Pack a cloth napkin instead of a paper napkin (the cloth napkins The Ultimate Green Store sells are organic cotton.) 
 Pack stainless-steel utensils instead of using disposable plastics.
 Pack a reusable drink container instead of disposable juice boxes, juice pouches, cans, and plastic bottles.
 Pack lunch items in reusable containers. The Laptop Lunchboxes The Ultimate Green Store sells work  well because they allow for an appealing horizontal presentation. Avoid  using plastic wraps, plastic bags, wax-paper bags, and aluminum foil.
 Avoid purchasing pre-packaged items. Buy foods in larger containers and leave them at home for recycling.
 Pack lunches in a lunch box or backpack instead of relying on paper or plastic bags.

Tell your friends and consider starting a waste-free lunch program at your school!

Week One Update: Ann and Betsy's Coupon Savings Challenge

We were talking about how couponing really pays off!  It has become amazing to us how quickly it all adds up and takes off that final total!  We have a challenge.  We want to see and share with you, our readers, how much we can and have saved. 
Ann's challenge involves her double couponing that she does at Pick 'n Save every Wednesday.  She breaks up her orders to $25 each order (before coupons) so that she can have multiple transactions.  She used reuseable bags (when she remembers!). 
Betsy's challenge involves her couponing.  No doubling will count just what is strictly saved from coupons and reuseable bags.
So, we will be showing you how we do it and how it really does add up!  You will see one person's savings that involves coupons, double coupons, and reuseable bags.  You will see one person's log of just coupons - not doubled.  It will be fun to see how those coupons add up. 
We are going to put our savings in a separate "pot" each.  This way we will update you at the end how much is in our "pot."  Let us know what you think.  We LOVE to hear from our readers!
