I'm not sure how funny it is, but on our first family vacation to Disney World a pigeon flying by pooped on top of my head. I've avoided them ever since :) *Thanks* for the giveaway! { Cheryl F }

BENADRYL!!!
Lol, just kidding, well sort of. My daughter gets car sick so instead of giving her dramamine when she was too little for it we gave her benadryl for long road trips so she could sleep thru the sickness.
We always tried to leave in the middle of the night as well so the kids could sleep thru the trip when they were really little. So we would keep them up late and thne leave around 11 or so. Worked like a charm!

Bring enough wipes with you on any trips, you'd be thankful. Game/books are useful as well.

On our last trip to WDW we learned to always have it handy on road trips as my daughter ended up throwing up more than three times...Quite a learning experience.
My best travel tip is to bring a portable DVD player and a lot of DVDs, and also play I Spy!
Thank you for the giveaway. (If I'm lucky enough to win, please don't announce my full name? I'm kind of weird about privacy. Thank you!)

I have learned to always keep snacks and drinks in the car because you never know if you will be able to find something along the route. Also, especially with younger children, a change of clothing is a must.
We get children's audiobooks from the library when we go on trips. Makes for great entertainment.
Plan well ahead of time and bring plenty of games, books, and special snacks for along the way.
When I know we are going on a trip I create check off lists for the kids. The older ones get license plate check off lists and the younger are more basic (Red car, Boat,Palm tree etc)
It really helps.
Thanks for the chance.

I always have my iPod charged for trips to the supermarket or any place my 3 year old daughter might not be interested in "helping" mommy. I downloaded a bunch of free toddler apps and she loves to play matching games and the piano app I have. I also have some of her favorite movies on it in case she gets extra restless.

The best tip I can give is to bring music! Whether it's CD's or your iPod.
Thanks!
Never underestimate the power of a portable DVD player. Elmo and Dora can save all that whining on a long roadtrip!

I buy small items on sale that I wrap and use for prizes. Then we play car bingo and trivia.
My advice is to do the driving while the kids are napping or at night after they have gone to sleep.

The big things have already been mentioned, so I'll throw in the item I never knew would be so crucial on a trip: zip lock baggies! I used them constantly, for packing, on the drive, and at the destination.
Thanks so much for the chance!

Pack lot of wipes and snacks and toys.

I make sure to pack my daughter's favorite snacks in Ziploc bags. It keeps her busy opening and closing the bags, and happy for a few minutes. :)

Gabrielle S. and Betsy S. Since I am just starting a family I don't have any tips or a funny story. I think this kit will really help with our new family travels though!
My favorite tip is to have a portable dvd player with Yo Gabba Gabba Videos and of course a change of clothes when the inevitable spill and mishap occurs!

Whenever we travel for more than a couple of hours, we absolutely must keep a small trash bag in the car. (I swear the trash is created out of thin air on those long trips.) And we make a deal with the kids: if they put their trash in the bag, we don't throw out any of their toys when we clean out the car. Thanks for the chance to win the awesome prize pack! -Kris T. (krstrpp at hotmail dot com)
my tip - leave early, stop early
a portable dvd is a key ingrediate for a trip
Make sure to have plenty of drinks and snacks in the car for the "But I am so hungry/thirsty RIGHT now."

My best advice for traveling with children is to pack everyone their own backpack.
Depending on their age it can include their favorite comfort toy, snacks, drinks, books, games a pillow and a blanket.
This tends to make the trip more plaesant for everyone.
Thank you so much for the giveaway.

I always make sure to keep a bag full of activities to keep em busy, and snacks! honeypie411 at yahoo dot com

My tip- let each kid have their own bag of snacks and non messy things to do- etch a sketch is great!

My tip is to pack lots of choices like coloring books and various car games to keep them all entertained.
You can register your trip with the State Department at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/ in the event of an emergency while you are traveling. It could prove to be very useful in an emergency!

My tip is to give a spare car key to your traveling companion or keep an extra in your pocket.

Paragoric works wonders - drug the little monsters.
Or, if you wish to avoid incarceration, you could always bring portable dvd players with their favorite shows.

My tips are to bring at least one pull-up or diaper, a zip lock of wipes, small bottle of water, small snack, something to play with and most importantly bring your patience! :)
At one time, I worked with a woman that had received her master's at the same time I did, and we decided to drive back to our home state together for a summer vacation. She not only did not have any children, she was downright leary of them, while I had 2. Despite some of the usual travel upsets during the trip, I rather thought it was funny that she decided that maybe all children were not little monsters after all--although I noticed she never suggested that we do a car trip together again!

Keeps snacks and toys next to older children so that the driver doesn't have to search for them while driving!
Always have a bag of toys that is JUST for travelling. Not only will they look forward to travelling, but the toys will all seem new to them when you bring them out on a trip.
barbara w.
stack up on snacks, which shouldn't be too messy, and bring their favorite handheld game with you
Best travel tip...If going on a long trip, put the kids in their PJ's and start the trip in the evening. You may all have to nap the next day, but letting them sleep while driving always works for us. Great giveaway, thanks.

It is always important to stay hydrated on the road, so I always make sure we have a cooler with bottled water.

Limit liquid intake!! The more they drink, the more you have to stop. I've had to make a 12 hour car ride with my kids a couple of time this summer and since it was just me and 3 kids, I didn't want to have to stop too often. I gave them mini juice boxes when they needed something.

I have two young boys, so there are two things we never leave home on an extended trip without. #1 - food. We always pack plenty of healthy snacks (and occasionally some gum or candy) so that there won't be any hunger meltdowns, and #2 - their nintendo Ds's. Goodness those things have saved our sanity!
Debra F
Bring more than enough of everything - more food, more diapers, more activities.
My traveling top is when traveling with young children make sure to have plenty to do. We have coloring books and crayons, we also like to play ispy games.
We give the older kids a sketch pad and charcoal pencil, and they're occupied for hours.

Being from Michigan, where if you don't like the weather....wait 10 minutes and it will change! I learned to keep extra clothing in my vehicle and other items that may or may not be needed. I include thing such as flip-flops for showering if going swimming, sturdy shoes if site-seeing, Sunscreen with insect repellent, first aid kit and etc.
Bring lots of toys, books and snacks for car or plane trips! If possible bring a few small new toys (they'll keep them busy longer)
I love the portable DVD player for long car trips and I also I always pack a small cooler of snacks and bottled water. Saves on having to stop.

Car games, food, water and a sense of humor will help traveling. Thanks for the contest.
We found out that if we need to make a long trip, the car dvd player is a lifesaver. So are handheld games. Also make sure there are plenty of drinks and snacks. We had an emergency bathroom stop in the middle of nowhere so now, we carry a small blanket (in case someone needs to hide) and an empty gatorade bottle for the boys - JUST IN CASE-lol lanemarinab@aol.com
I think books on tape are great. It keeps everyone entertained and gives the family something to discuss. Thanks so much! pamelashockley(AT)aol(DOT)com
Thanks for the giveaway...the only travel tip I have for traveling with kids for long distances via car is to schedule stops every 90 minutes or so to allow your kids to stretch their legs, use the restroom, etc. Oh, and make sure you carry a "car/motion sickness receptacle" of some sort, because one of your kids will need it...eventually.

Fabreeze cloth/carpet cleaner, fabreeze air spray, roll of papertowels, 2 grocery bags at least 2 diapers, a jug of water and 2 extra sets of kid's and a set of parent's clothes. Sometimes I have to give a larger dose of Miralax for her stools to soften enough to pass if she goes with out poohen for a couple of days and gets impacted........do to this, I learned to just stay home til she goes potty. Took forever to get the smell out of the car and took the whole car seat apart to clean. (Stephanie H) clc_little_britches@yahoo dot com
If we are driving or flying somewhere I try to leave/be traveling during my childrens normal sleep time, by leaving right before bedtime or very early in the morning, so that they sleep through most of it, plus it is usually less busy during those times
I always bring the dvd player&plenty of dvds.We also give the kids a disposable camera&they love taking pics!
ardelong2(at)gmail(dot)com
Signing a credit card slip at a Disney World restaurant before the card was even run (duh!) then having management chase us down! :)
I always bring snacks because the kids will be hungry on the drive...make sure they have healthy alternatives rather than having to stop someplace along the way
trippyjanet at hotmail dot com
my travel tip is to make sure to let the kids run around and get some of their energy out before loading up in the car for hours of riding.

Our fav. traveling tip with kids is to take along the video player and several of their favorite movies. Entertains them for hours on end!

My funniest traveling memory was when I was a kid and we were going on vacation to NJ from PA and we ended up in downtown Bronx NY. My dad was always awful at directions!

My best tip is to NOT pack your child's favorite toy or blanket. Take their second favorite because you are in for a world of hurt if you leave or lose their very favorite, believe me!
