Steps4Kids Handwriting DVD Review

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!

We received a really neat educational video for kids the: Steps4Kids Handwriting DVD!

The DVD starts with a 6 minute video for parents.

There are great tips and reminders-the video recommends that an area is designated for writing when it is time to practice. The area needs to be free of distractions, have sharpened pencils, paper and no toys or other items on the table. It is also important for the child’s feet to be on the floor-if the table is too high just have your child place their feet on a stool.

There is also an explanation of types of pencils.

The video shows the proper way to hold a writing instrument and how to correct a grip as well.

The video is very easy to understand. It gives you different tricks to use for instance-instead of just writing with a pencil and paper you can practice your writing using chalk outside! You should make it fun!!!

The 2nd section of DVD works on uppercase letters. The narrator went through the alphabet and how to hold your pencil. The narrator also went through the tips on how you should be sitting and making sure you are ready to start writing. This section started with the letter “F”, I really liked how a real hand is showing how to write the letters-it is not just a graphic or animation. The real hand is using a marker and lined paper. I thought it was great that example words were given to really reinforce early reading skills.

The 3rd section is the lowercase letters starting with the letter “l”. The narrator uses fun words like “zoom from the top line to the bottom line”. Who doesn’t like to “zoom”? The narrator is also encouraging and has a pleasant easy to listen to voice. At the end there are tips on how to remember how to write your letters.

My oldest son has been practicing for a few minutes each day-he was not happy about it at first but now he is looking forward to those few concentrated minutes each day! His writing has really improved and he is really starting to recognize and write his letters!

Art 'N Oddities

I stumbled across this absolutely awesome store this summer! It has unique and fun items from a number of local and not so local artists! The owner is very friendly and can tell you about each piece and is an artist herself!  There are a lot of fun items in the store!  I have purchased a number of these very cute plastic spoon ornaments-each one is hand dipped, glittered and beaded.  They also have a bow on the handle and a wire beaded accent.  They are in a variety of colors and under $5.00!  My mother picked up theses great scarves that have pockets, they are fleece and are all unique-the pockets are great for your hands or to keep your gloves handy!  She also picked up a very neat bird perch with a plastic plate and bowl attached to be used as a bird feeder, bird bath or outdoor candle holder!-she gave this to my aunt for her birthday-she was amazed!

The owner also makes these really neat Bowzrz!

We have the exciting opportunity to giveaway ONE class to Art 'N Oddities:

One winner will have the opportunity to create a one of a kind piece of art!  The class will be Mirror, Mirror (look above for the example-isn't it neat?!)
The following is directly from the Art 'N Oddities Class website:
"A project that would be great to do as a gift.  10 inch square mirror and frame with faux mosaic.  Keeping the concept of "going green," the mosaic effect is done with old magazine pictures, photographs and specialty papers.  Great results, you just need a little patience.  The class consists of one 2.5 hour session.  All supplies provided, unless you want to use some personal photographs.  Class cost: $25.00"

Wouldn't this be a neat gift with cut up photographs?  I can just picture myself copying pictures of my friends and then cutting them to create an awesome mirror!  OR my sister is expecting in December, I think this would be neat with baby photos!

How fun does this sound?  If you are the lucky winner you will be able to create the mirror for FREE but what fun is it to do a creative class by yourself?  You can bring a friend (needs to be at least 15 years old) for $12.50!  What a fun activity to do with a son or daughter or with your husband or friend!

If you are the winner you will need to come up with a mutually decided day and time.  The winner will have their name passed onto the owner of Art 'N Oddities and you will also be notified that you are the winner by us.  The class will need to be used before January 1st, 2011.

This giveaway is from the Art 'N Oddities store. My Milwaukee Mommy did not receive anything in conjunction with this giveaway. My Milwaukee Mommy contacted the owner of Art 'N Oddities and asked if there would be a possibility for a giveaway and there was!!! All opinions in this "review" are my own personal and honest opinion.

Boogie Wipes Review and Giveaway ENDS 11/3 11:59pm CST

For the past couple of weeks we have had the chance to use the Unscented and Grape scented Boogie Wipes.  Boogie Wipes are a saline wipe for your child's nose-I personally used them and they are great!  Ann really noticed that her kiddos squirmed less when getting their noses wiped and their noses were not chapped and raw after repeated wipes!  This is a little gross but Ann noticed that her kiddos "boogies" were easier to wipe with the Boogie Wipes-they crusty ones were easier to clean off of her kiddos.

My husband tried the Boogie Wipes-he preferred the unscented, while I enjoyed the Grape scented.  We both liked that the saline dried quickly and yet kept our noses moisturized.  Sometimes your nose get so dry and chaffed after having to blow all the time!

How would you like to win 2 packages of Boogie Wipes?

Disclosure-We each received samples and a package of Boogie Wipes for the review and the giveaway to offer to you!  No monetary exchange.  The opinions in this review are ours and our families.  Boogie Wipes did help our recent colds!
