How quickly one second...or even twenty minutes can change our lives...forever!  Tonight from
3 pm -11 pm at the Dousman Community Center there will be a Benefit for Baby Owen.
Who is Baby Owen?
On July 23, 2010, 16 month old Owen fell into his family’s swimming pool. He was without oxygen for a period of time. CPR was started immediately, an ambulance was called and Flight for Life was utilized to transport him to the hospital.   When he arrived, his family was told that because he was without oxygen, he had suffered many significant injuries. His kidney and liver functions were low, he was not breathing on his own and he was intubated. The most significant concern at his arrival was that the lack of oxygen would cause swelling in his brain. The medical team said that the first 72 hours would be critical in terms of observing how his brain would respond.   He was given a CAT scan of the brain, and the doctors stated that there was damage to his brain; however, he was still showing brain stem activity. The doctors and nurses put in a central line and an arterial line to provide him with the medications and nourishment that he needed. He was also placed on a mat to keep his core body temperature lower than normal so as to minimize brain activity. Because of the high probability of swelling the health care team wanted to keep brain activity to a minimum so that his brain could just “rest.” He was also given morphine for pain and epinephrine to maintain his blood pressures.  Owen’s progress continues, and you can find updates from his parents by clicking on “Updates on Owen.” Owen’s journey is a marathon, not a sprint, and each day he needs the continued love, support and prayers from those who have been touched by his story. Please take some time to reflect on how you may be able to support him along the way and visit the link explaining “how you can help.”
Any donations will be forwarded to a special fund established specifically for Owen’s care.
Tonight, take some time out of your hectic schedule to join Owen and his family.  Owen has come home, so it's a time for celebration...and support as this will be a long process in healing for them all!  There will be a silent auction from 3 PM to 8 PM.  There will be a spaghetti dinner from 4:30 until around 6:30.  There will be a DJ/Karaoke from 3 PM to 8 PM.  They have booked the awesome band The Boogie Men from 8 PM until 11 PM.
Cost:
Dinner: $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for children under 12, and free for children under 3. There is also a $5.00 cover charge for the band.

Location

Dousman Community Center
235 N. Main St.
Dousman, WI 53118

I am hoping to make it out there with my husband and my children so that we can show our support for something that is so unimaginable to all of us!  They will have many kid-friendly activities.  Something like this makes me hug my children just a little bit tighter.  If you cannot attend, but would like to help in some way, check out their site!
