Looking at the Pick'n Save ad this week (sales end on 5/16/12) I found it pretty easy to put a meal together just using what was on sale and using the coupons that were right in the ad.
I picked up the boneless pork ribs that were on sale for $2.48 per pound.
Our package was around 2 pounds so it only cost $5.06. Because we were going to be out and about all day I decided to just throw them in the slow cooker and let them go.
I noticed in the ad that asparagus was on sale. We really like asparagus, so I pick it up whenever it is on sale.
I grabbed one bunch,which cost $3.39, but I only made half of it for this dinner. It is easy to make, just break off the bottoms, drizzle with some olive oil, and sprinkle with your favorite seasonings, I usually use pepper and garlic salt. Then they get baked at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes, they are also great on the grill.
Right on the bottom front page of the ad were two coupons that I used to round out our meal. The first was for boxes of corn muffin mix, 4/$1. We are fans of corn muffins.
One box makes six muffins, and it is easy to make. Just mix it with an egg and some milk, then fill your muffin cups and follow the baking directions. So after 20 minutes these came out of the oven.
The other coupon was for bagged salad, which you could pick up for just $0.49.
When you put it all together you end up with a satisfying meal, that is quick and easy.
To break it all down, the pork was $5.06, the asparagus was $1.70, the muffins were $0.25, and the salad was $0.49. So our total meal was just $7.50.
Hopefully this inspires you to put together a meal on the cheap for your family.
