Lake Park Concerts: Wonderful Wednesdays in the Park...Music for Families

Wonderful Wednesdays is a series of five concerts geared for children and their families. These presentations will be held June 26, July 10, 17, 24 and 31.

The Wonderful Wednesdays concerts are just one hour in length, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

These concerts are FREE and open to the public. All concerts take place at the new Lake Park Summer Stage in Lake Park Picnic Area #3, just south of the playground and tennis courts.

Here's the lineup for this concert series:

July 24:  The Cash Box Kings
July 31:  The Chickadees

Jazz in the Park Starts Tomorrow, June 6! Check out the Lineup for this year!

Jazz in the Park is Milwaukee's favorite free, outdoor, summer music series, featuring an eclectic lineup of jazz, big band, funk, R & B, reggae, blues and more. Performers come from across town or across the country.

Concerts take place Thursday evenings, 5pm-9pm from June 6 through September 5, in Cathedral Square Park. Music starts at 6pm, but stop by early for Jazz in the Park Happy Hour and get great drink specials from 5-6pm!

Jazz in the Park is produced by a non-profit organization and asks that you leave your adult beverages at home. You can purchase wine, beer and cocktails from the various Jazz in the Park beverage tents. All proceeds from sales at Jazz in the Park help offset the high costs of production and ensure the continued success of the festival. Please do your part to support this event.

Glow in the Dark Ice Skating Saturday, January 19th!

Check out this fun Ice Skating opportunity!  

You can go Glow in the Dark Ice Skating at the Wilson Ice Arena!

Admission is $5 per skater.  This includes a glow necklace and skate rental if needed, you will also get a door prize entry!

This will be January 19th from 8-11pm.

The Bay View Neighborhood Association is holding their annual Pumpkin Pavilion again.  Head over there on Friday and/or Saturday, October 19th and 20th.

FREE Wet and Wild Outdoor Family Fun!

I have been to one of these splash pads and  when I went it was very nice.  The Madison Park Splash Pad is pretty big and is FREE along with other Milwaukee County Park Splash Pads.  The Madison Park Splash Pad also has free parking around it and plenty of grassy areas in case you want to have a picnic, there are also bathrooms, always a plus. :)
I love that is it FREE!!!

Get out and explore with your family! Check out The Oak Leaf Dicovery Tour

Hey Milwaukee, get out, get active, and rediscover your Oak Leaf Trail. You could win valuable prizes doing so!  Join The Park People as they launch The Oak Leaf Discovery Tour Passport event. This event goes on all summer long and starts with your purchase of the Oak Leaf Discovery Tour Passport. This pocket sized book, which comes with a map of the Oak Leaf Trail, has pictures and information about 14 county park locations along or near the 115 mile Oak Leaf Trail. When you visit one of these destinations, you collect special "stamps" in your passport. Collect at least 8 stamps, register your passport, and be eligible to win prizes at the end of summer. Prizes include bikes, biking supplies, and gift certificates.

The program is designed to encourage family exploration, healthy recreation and awareness of the history of our parks, cultural opportunities and natural beauty.

Passports are $3 each or 5 for $10. Passports will be available for purchase at many park locations, bike shops, or at the Park People website. All net proceeds from the sale of Passports will be used for enhancements of the Oak Leaf Trail. Passport locations may be closed due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Discovery Tour runs from June 2 to September 11. The drawing for prizes will be held on September 15th at a concert event at Estabrook Park – more details will be provided at a later time.

2. Visit OLDT locations and collect one unique stamp from each. Collect a minimum of eight (8) unique  OLDT stamps in your Passport or on a sheet of paper to be eligible for prizes at the Oak Leaf Discovery Tour Party & Concert, September 15, 2012 at Estabrook Park.

3. Register for the prize drawing by visiting Milwaukee County Parks Administration, 9480 Watertown Plank Rd., Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., before September 11, 2012,  Bring your stamped Passport or stamped sheet of paper to prove you have collected 8 unique OLDT stamps.

I love it!  Mr. Betsy and I were driving down the expressway the other day and this billboard certainly caught my eye.  
BRILLIANT! What a great idea, keep your house clean (or maybe not worry about getting it spotless) and rent a picnic area for your next birthday party or get together!  Spend time outside in one of our wonderful Milwaukee County Parks.

Did you know you can go ice skating on Christmas?

Are you looking for something to do on Sunday with your family?  I know you will probably be spending the day with your family and enjoying a great meal and playing with all the goodies that you received but it is also important to be active. :)  Maybe start a new tradition...ice skating!

Milwaukee County Red Arrow Park has an outdoor refrigerated rink!
On Christmas Day the rink will be open from 2pm-10pm.

No skates under the tree?  No problem, you can rent them there for $7 if you are under 18 years old and $8 for older than 18.
Now this is not open only on Christmas, there are hours during the week too, be sure to check out the hours during the week, maybe this would be a fun activity over Winter Break!
(There is also a Starbucks right by the rink.)
