I used to be a Farmville junkie but stopped playing and then I heard about the TerraCycle game!  I was so excited, now I love the game and the company!

"Now, going green is more fun and easier for both parents and kids. The online game helps both learn about the environment and raise money for CarbonFund.org, an environmental non-profit. A non-branded, non-Facebook version of the game will also be available soon! 

Trash Tycoon is the first Facebook game built around upcycling. Players are the mayor of their town, which has a common problem: garbage! Players are challenged to collect waste and overcome various trash based obstacles and missions. They can then build factories and upcycling facilities just like the ones TerraCycle operates to make the same products TerraCycle makes in real life. In addition, players can create and cultivate a worm farm and create fertilizer based on TerraCycle’s original business model.

10% of all in-game currency will be donated to a CarbonFund project, and players will get to choose from three monthly projects to support with their efforts. Trash Tycoon will also connect to the real-life TerraCycle Brigade programs. Members of the TerraCycle Brigade system will get special bonuses, items and gifts in the game and when they reach certain levels in the game, will even get bonus points or other surprises in their real Brigade accounts! This makes the game a great way to further engage kids (and adults!) in more recycling and resource conservation.

The game is fun, you click to clean up garbage and populate your city.  You earn coins to purchase green items for your city while cleaning up garbage that you can then upcycle!  My city is a green level 6 right now, I have purchases windmills and recycling bins and am working on becoming greener so I can move onto the next level and get more populated and open the rest of my city.  Check it out, it is addictive!

I hope you have heard of TerraCycle they are a great company that turns trash into usable items, they save thousands of tons of garbage from ending up in landfills.  


If your child attends a non profit school or is part of a non profit organization you need to check into this!

My after school program has raised over $400 by sending in trash!  The picture below is my latest shipment going to TerraCycle.  I am anticipating about $10.
You join different "brigades", the "brigades" are the collection items.
We are part of these brigades:
Diaper Packaging
Writing Instruments (plastic based)
Juice Pouches
Candy Wrappers
Cookie Packaging
Chip Bags
Toilet Paper and Paper Towel plastic packaging
Coffee Bags
Spreads-like plastic butter containers
There are more too!

TerraCycle weighs the packages and then adds what we earn to our account.  I then go in and tell them I want to be paid out (checks come twice a year).

There are a lot of budget cuts happening and I love that I am able to supplement by doing something so simple and FREE!  Free account-free stuff to collect-free to send in!

It really is not difficult.  If you are not doing it you are literally throwing money away and not helping the enviroment!

TerraCycle is one of my favorite companies-I follow them on Twitter and like them on Facebook.  I am also a brigade member and our before and after school program has raised over $200.00 just by sending in our garbage!  We use the funds to purchase new games and art supplies.  TerraCycle collects certain waste streams like juice pouches, chip bags, candy wrappers and a lot more.  They "recycle" these items and create new items like school supplies, gardening supplies, household items and more.
I have a number of TerraCycle items that I use one a daily basis-a clock made out of a record, a flower put, a juice pouch tote bag, a candy wrapper purse, a pencil pouch, a lunch bag, plant food and a couple other items.  They are well made and I have received a lot of compliments on each of them!

I love the TerraCycle 8" Urban Art Flower Pot!

I am a HUGE fan of TerraCycle and their products.  If you are a part of a non profit organization or your children attend a non profit school or if you just want to Pay It Forward to community organizations you really should check out TerraCycle.  We gave earned over $200.00 for my after school program just by sending in our trash (shipping is free!)

With the garbage TerraCycle creates great products like pencil pouches, tote bags, garbage cans, small speakers, notebooks, lunch totes and a lot more, like this Flower Pot!

I planted a few gladioli in my Flower Pot, there are drainage holes at the bottom and it is made of a strong plastic-I believe TerraCycled chip bags create these beautiful pots!  These are not recommended for edible plants.

TerraCycle Drink Pouch Pencil Bag and Lunch Bag Review

Thank you TerraCycle!  I am a HUGE fan of TerraCycle and their mission.  As you may remember they recently sponsored a TerraCycle Drink Pouch Tote Bag Giveaway-one of our readers won a similar tote bag to the one pictured above!  Ann and I received the Drink Pouch Lunch Bag and a Drink Pouch Pencil Bag.  (I actually recently received a Drink Pouch Tote Bag for my birthday from my sister!)

The pencil bag is very roomy and fits a lot of school supplies!  There is a zipper closure along the top of the bag. 
The lunch bag is excellent-I fit 6 cans of soda in it plus a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!  No, that was not my lunch I was just testing it out!  The lunch bag is rectangular and has a double handle. 

The tote bag is great!  It is about a foot and a half tall (just under 3 juice pouches).  It fits quite a lot of items and is very durable! 
Something awesome about all three items?  They are made from juice pouches!  They are well made-sewn together!  They are eco-friendly!  They are stylish!  They can be wiped clean!!!  Oops-was that more than one? :)

into useful items. The collection program, called the Drink Pouch
Brigade, takes place mostly in schools, where children choose to
deposit used pouches in special receptacles rather than throw them
away. In participating schools, each used drink pouch collected and
sent to TerraCycle earns two cents, with the funds going toward
needed educational programs and resources. Does your school

 I am lucky to be able to call myself a "brigade leader"!  My Before and After School Program has sent in over 2,000 drink pouches and over 500 chip bags-it is great knowing that we are a part (even if it is a small part) of getting to the 50 million drink pouches.
I also have and use a few of the TerraCycle products-I have a Skittles Purse-I get a ton of compliments on it!  Whenever someone commemnts on it I have a great opportunity to talk up TerraCycle-and trust me I do!  I also have one of the pretzel bag pencil holders and use their Plant Food with is made from Worm Droppings!  The Worm Droppings are how TerraCycle really got their start-I STRONGLY SUGGEST checking out there website- TerraCycle has a great video which explains their company and where they started!  Check it out.  As you can tell I am a HUGE TerraCycle Fan!!!

Garbage Moguls TV Show!!! TerraCycle

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

We all shop for groceries, sometimes two or three times a week –- or more. Now turn those shopping trips into easy cash for your school, and encourage friends to do the same! Just look for the Box Tops logo on hundreds of products like Cheerios®, Hamburger Helper® and Kleenex®, in almost every aisle of the store. All you need to do is clip and send them to your school’s Box Tops coordinator —- each one is worth 10¢ for your school.

CAMPBELL'S LABELS FOR EDUCATION

We all shop for groceries and back to school products. Now turn those shopping trips into points for your school, and encourage friends to do the same! Just look for the Campbell's Labels for Education logo on hundreds of products like Bic, Goldfish Crackers and Spaghettios, in almost every aisle of the store. All you need to do is clip and send them to your school’s Campbell's Labels for Educations coordinator —- each one is worth points for your school.  In turn, your school turns the points into items for the classroom and school as they order from a catalog!
The process is very simple.  Here are the steps to follow:

1. Save UPCs and beverage caps from particiapting products.
2. Send in UPCs to earn Labels for Education points for your school.
3. Clip ONLY the UPC codes and not the entire label.
4. Your school gets to redeem the Labels Points for great mechandise for your school.

Points vary on their worth.  Some products are worth one point while others are worth ten!  Here is a list of some of the products that can earn your school some points!

• Campbell's Condensed Soups (1 point)
• Bic Brite Liner Highlighter (1 point)
• All V8 Soups (5 points)

McDONALD's NEIGHBORS PROGRAM

Save your McDonald's Receipts to earn FREE stuff for your school!  McDonald's is excited about helping children through their Neighbors Program.  Eligible schools and organizations can collect and save receipts to redeem for free stuff.  Your school or organization can redeem the required amount of authorized McDonald's receipts for a variety of specially selected merchandise.  Available products include:
- Art supplies
- Classroom/Teacher aids
- Library supplies / furniture
- Audio/Visual equipment
- Science / Math items
- Playground / Physical Ed. Equipment
Plus, there are many more useful items that can be utilized by both children and adults in your school or organizational program.
Each item featured on the website lists the total number of McDonald's purchase receipts required for redemption of each item. The value of each receipt includes the merchandise cost, processing fees, and the shipping charges.

TERRACYCLE

TerraCycle is an excellent fundraising program that non-profit organizations can sign up to participate in.  If your school is interested in participating log onto www.terracycle.net there you will find out how to sign up for the program and how to join the different brigades (items you can collect).  TerraCycle pays out $.02 (a few brigades are higher valued but more difficult to collect) for each piece collected, your non-profit sends in their collected items free of charge!  All they need to do is log into their account and print off a shipping label, tape up the box and take it to their local UPS shipping store!  TerraCycle will send out checks in December and June. 
There are a variety of items that can be collected:

• CapriSun or similar juice pouches
• Chip bags with the silver lining-any brand or size
• Candy wrappers-any brand or size
• Cell phones
• Empty Writing Instruments
• Huggies Diaper packaging
• Energy Bar Wrappers 
• and a few more!

Your organization will want to sign up as soon as possible because TerraCycle does limit the number of groups in some brigades sometimes.  Collecting the "garbage" is fun and rewarding!  Not only is your organization earning money but they are helping the environment and teaching our children about saving money, conserving, recycling and reusing!  The organization I am part of has saved over $4,000 juice pouches, over 500 chip bags and over 100 writing instruments from land fills and that is just since November of 2009.  We are ready for another great year of TerraCycling!

TerraCycle turns this "garbage" into usable products like the lunch tote pictured above.  They also make fences, toys, pet items, school supplies, fire logs, gardening items and more!  Check out TerraCycle if you are interested in enrolling your non-profit organization or if you are interested in seeing their great products!

Terracycle goes one enormous step further with their Paying it Forward to Mother Earth by creating Brigades. Brigades sign up to collect a particular discard -cell phones, computer parts, elmer's glue, lay's chip bag, and more. By joining a Brigade, you get paid .02 cents for each item you turn in - an item which would have ended up in a landfill otherwise.

You may also simply join a team which has been started in your area.

This is an easy fundraising opportunity for team moms, room reps, teachers, scout troops, an church organizations to participate in. The list is endless really and your group earns money as well as helping the environment.
