Six Flags Great America Leading the Way with Rage of the Gargoyles, A Fully-Integrated Virtual Reality Coaster Experience

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!

At Six Flags Great America, the Thrill Capital of the Midwest, riders will battle demonic creatures in Rage of the Gargoyles, a fully-integrated Virtual Reality (VR) coaster experience featuring Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus.   This highly-anticipated, completely interactive adventure will debut on the Demon roller coaster beginning August 13 with an exclusive preview to Six Flags Season Pass holders and Samsung phone owners on August 12.

“Innovation is park of Six Flags’ DNA, and this revolutionary VR technology will transform this
classic, fan favorite into a cutting-edge thrill,” said Hank Salami, park president. “Rage of the
Gargoyles VR is the perfect addition to breathe new life into the Demon coaster that has been a
part of our arsenal of rides for 40 years.”

Riders will board the Demon and strap on Samsung Gear VR headsets. They will immediately
become helicopter pilots to actively fight off evil creatures using cutting-edge gaming
technology, as the high-definition imagery syncs with 1,250 feet of looping, twisting coaster track. Surrounded by 360-degrees of sheer chaos, it is up to the riders to save humanity.

The Demon was one of the first roller coasters in the world that featured a corkscrew maneuver. The ride received a complete makeover in 1979 with the theming that guests enjoy today and was renamed, the Demon. Among those makeovers, the Demon featured two vertical loops and unique theming with its own soundtrack. The Demon continues to delight guests of all ages.

Guests must be at least 42” tall to ride the Demo and at least 13 years of age to wear Samsung Gear VR.

I had the opportunity to give this ride a try yesterday and I have to say...what a thrill!  It was pretty awesome!  The Demon has always been one of my favorite rides, but with the addition of the VR headset, it made the ride even more thrilling!  The only thing I do advise is for those riders with sensitivity to motion sickness, skip it!  I was fine and enjoyed the ride, but I did take something before the ride to help combat my motion sickness.  It was, overall, a fun and interactive experience!

Skylanders is Ready for the Summer Games in Rio!

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
Calling all families! Inspired by this year’s games? Skylanders invites you to participate in a global campaign to get kids moving and #TrainingFor2020. We want you to share photos or short videos of your children training for the 2020 summer games. Here’s the challenge: they have to incorporate a Skylanders toy into their training. For example, if they’re doing a pushup, they have to go low enough for their nose to touch a Skylander stationed on the floor. If they’re running a relay with siblings, they can hand off a Skylander instead of a baton. Like Skylanders Imaginators itself, the creative possibilities are endless! Show us what your future athletes are made of as they get inspired by this year’s World Games in Rio!

To participate, please post your photos and videos to Twitter, Instagram or Facebook using #TrainingFor2020 #Skylanders. Please keep videos within 15 seconds. Show your videos before the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 21st!

Aflac's Real Cost Calculator...Help Prepare for the Unexpected!

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Aflac. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

With constant changes on the rise in healthcare, we risk finding ourselves completely unaware of the true costs of medical emergencies. We expect our health insurance to mostly cover our family's out-of-pocket medical costs through a crisis, but the fact of the matter is - major medical was not designed to cover everything. So in the case of cancer or a stroke, few expect it to cost as much as a mortgage payment. Plus, in the case of something like a child's broken leg, deductibles, co-pays or rehab add up quickly and can catch you off guard.

When I had my fourth child, we were struggling to make ends meet.  We were slammed with medical bills and were still paying off the bills from my third child!  Our fourth was unexpected, so it wasn't "in our budget."  We like to have money set aside for the unexpected.  However, when one thing comes up...it seems like a billion things come up!  I am sure we can all relate and think of a time when something unexpected came up that we didn't have a "buffer" for.  This happens in our family more times than I would like to admit, but it happens!

Aflac helps prepare families for the often unexpected costs associated with unpredictable illnesses or injuries with their "Real Cost Calculator ." It's super easy to use and illustrates the costs associated with medical conditions.  It takes you through all the steps...first estimated expenses not covered by insurance, then everyday household costs, and finally out of pocket costs during treatment...all the way down to transportation to follow-up medical appointments.   I love that this process shows you how Aflac's supplemental insurance offsets the unexpected costs and serves as a buffer to fill in the gaps of your health care plan.  This will leave you feeling more secure about your family's financial future!

After what we went through after the birth of our fourth child, I have learned that you should always have a plan in action to help cover the cost of the unexpected.  I would have never expected the costs that we were hit with when we had our fourth child.  My husband's insurance kept changing, so, naturally, there were a whole lot of payments that we didn't anticipate.  I loved playing around with the Real Cost Calculator to see different scenarios and what to "expect" when we are hit with the unexpected!

Fight "Summer Brain Drain", with the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago...KEEP READING! :)

Description: http://www.msichicago.org/misc/sig_msi_75.png
Have you been to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago?  I haven't been in years, we are planning on getting there this summer for a fun day in Chicago.
Right now MSI (Museum of Science and Industry) wants to prevent "summer brain drain" by offering a free online summer science kit, check out this press release...

CHICAGO, Ill. (June 18, 2012)—School’s out; brains can turn off, right?  Wrong.

Summer can be a great time for kids to learn in a whole new way. And the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago is offering eight weeks of ways for parents across the country to keep their kids engaged in science with the online program Summer Brain Games.

Research shows kids can lose one to three months of learning over the summer, i.e., the “summer brain drain.” In a poll conducted for the Museum (MSI) by ORC International, 69 percent of parents said they are concerned their kids will forget the knowledge they learned during the school year, while 88 percent said it’s important to them to find educational activities for their children in the summer.

Summer Brain Games, perfect for families with kids of various ages, fights the “summer brain drain” with a FREE online activity kit featuring weekly, at-home experiments on summery science themes. The experiments can be done with some adult supervision and items that are easily and inexpensively purchased—or found around the house. The kit is available in both English and Spanish.

“The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago knows there is a definite need for activities and programs to keep kids learning during the summer,” said Nicole Kowrach, the Museum’s director of teaching and learning. “Studies show that some kids can tune out during the summer months and lose critical knowledge and thinking skills they need to begin a successful new school year. With Summer Brain Games, we are offering families an easy way to engage with each other, learn some science and have fun doing it.”
In the Summer Brain Games online kit, a bright, sunny day poses a chance to learn about solar power. A simple machine like a catapult can make an ordinary water balloon fight extraordinary. And making tasty ice cream can teach about temperature changes. In addition to these weekly experiments, the kit offers other engaging tidbits about the science to be found around us all summer—and year—long!  Why do cans of regular soda sink in the cooler while diet soda floats? What’s happening when a beam of light bounces off certain objects and not others? What are the forces of flight that keep airplanes in the air?
In addition to promoting this program to families across Chicago and the nation, the Museum’s Center for the Advancement of Science Education (CASE) has teamed up with 10 community organizations and kids clubs in low-income communities mostly on Chicago’s West and South sides to provide, at no cost, all the materials necessary to complete the experiments. CASE staff members will be visiting each community group to deliver materials, provide printed kit booklets and introduce the program.
“Kids from disadvantaged communities can suffer the most from the summer brain drain,” said Kowrach. “They often don’t have the support they need to keep learning during a several month break from school. By engaging these community groups in Summer Brain Games, we hope to help these kids prepare for a successful school year ahead.”
HOW TO BECOME A SUMMER BRAINAIC, AND WIN PRIZES, TOO!
Families who register to be “Summer Brainiacs” at msichicago.org/summerbrain will receive a voucher good for a FREE general admission ticket to MSI. (One per household.) Participants will get weekly emails with tips on each experiment and additional ways to play with science during the summer. And, each week, one lucky winner will receive a family membership to MSI to experience a whole YEAR of science. Participants will also be invited to share their Summer Brain Games experiences with at least one photo and a brief essay about what they learned for a chance to win a tech package—a notebook computer, iPad and digital camera!

Visit msichicago.org/summerbrain now to register and learn more. The eight weeks of activities will be available online by June 18 and run through August 12, 2012.

The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) offers thousands of fun and interactive exhibits and one-of-a-kind, world-class experiences to inspire the inventive genius in everyone. Through its Center for the Advancement of ScienceEducation, MSI also aspires to a larger vision: to inspire and motivate children to achieve their full potential in science, technology, medicine and engineering. Come visit and find your inspiration! MSI is open every day except Christmas and Thanksgiving day; regular hours are 9:30 to 4 p.m. every day. During the summer and peak periods, the Museum will offer extended hours, until 5:30 p.m., each day. The Museum is supported in part through the generosity of the people of Chicago through the Chicago Park District. For more information, find MSI online at msichicago.org or call (773) 684-1414 or (800) GO-TO-MSI outside of the Chicago area.
