Schwan's Cares: A New Way to Fundraise

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!

Schwan’s Cares is a brand new fundraising platform that allows local non-profits (such as youth sports teams, high school bands/teams and community groups) raise money for their respective causes online, quickly and easily, but in a way that allows the donor to buy products that they would normally purchase, while simultaneously giving back.

With Schwan’s Cares, children or groups no longer have to handle cash and sell marked up goods in parking lots or storefronts, but rather, non-profit charitable groups can use Schwan's Cares to create a fundraising web page. Supporters can then shop online from more than 350 of Schwan’s home-style foods, where 20 per cent of every purchase goes toward the fundraising campaign of their choosing. It’s truly the gift that gives back.

Schwan's Makes Planning Meals Quick and Easy for the Busy Family!

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!

Well...the kids are back in school. This means busy days and hectic nights for our family! I was excited to get a weeklong supply of food from Schwan's to review with my family. I will be posting some yummy food that we tried out for breakfast and dinner.

The second product we sampled was the Chicken Alfredo Bianco Flatbread Thin Crust Pizza.

A flatbread thin crust pizza with grilled white meat chicken, roasted red peppers, black olives, spinach, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, creamy alfredo sauce and a savory herb blend. This flavor bursting pizza works great as a meal or as an appetizer.

Each package contained two pizzas.  We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and grill these outside on the grill!  YUM!  So crispy...and delicious.  My children weren't crazy about the flavor.  They did like the chicken, so we had to modify one of the pizzas for them.  Easy to do when it was frozen...just picked the peppers off.  But my husband and I LOVED the flavors!  Excellent on the grill!

Well...the kids are back in school.  This means busy days and hectic nights for our family!  I was excited to get a weeklong supply of food from Schwan's to review with my family.  I will be posting some yummy food that we tried out for breakfast and dinner.  I loved making the family some yummy blueberry muffins!

The first product we sampled were these Blueberry Muffin Starters.

Freshly-baked blueberry muffins just can’t get any easier. Simply drop our frozen batter pucks into paper liners, pop them into a muffin tin and bake. Fluffy, satisfying and flavored with real blueberries-no mixing or bowls required! Individual pucks let you make one for yourself or enough for the entire family. Take some to work, or send some to school with this delicious, breakfast treat!
These were sent frozen and all I had to do was pop them into cupcake tins.  I sprayed the cupcake tins with cooking spray and dropped these frozen pucks in and put them into the oven.  Sound easy?  It was!  I loved the ease of it all!  These were ready and on the table for the kids to grab on their way out the door for a delicious, warm breakfast to start their day!

These were yummy and easy to make.  We opted to make the pack of 18 right away.  We doubled up the batter pucks in 6 of the tins and left 6 tins with just one puck.  As you can see in the picture, these muffins are different sizes.  The bigger, more full ones were the ones that were doubled up.  The little ones loved the smaller ones...perfect for their little hands.  I loved the larger ones...perfect for big tummys!

If you like yogurt you should check out Schwan's Home Delivery Thaw & Serve yogurt!

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!

Do you like yogurt?  Do you use Schwan’s Home Delivery?  Schwan's will deliver groceries to your home in case you are not familiar with their services.  I tried the Thaw and Serve Creamy Yogurt, you put it in your freezer and then goes to your fridge when you are ready to eat so it thaws.  I m a strawberry yogurt fan so I was pretty excited, the strawberry has little chunks of strawberries in it.  Both yogurts (strawberry and vanilla) had a smooth texture and were a great yogurt consistency, the strawberry needed to be stirred as there was the fruit so I wanted it dispersed throughout.  The vanilla was just the vanilla, no stirring needed.  I did enjoy the vanilla as well, it was creamy and refreshing, I just prefer the strawberry. :)  I think the Schwan's Thaw & Serve Creamy Yogurt is certainly unique because of the thaw and serve component.  If you have yogurt in the morning like I do sometimes you will just need to pop on in the fridge the night before or wait a while and have it at lunch, it thaws in about 2 hours.

"Available in strawberry and vanilla each variety is slow-blended and flash frozen to lock creamy goodness we all crave! Even better, this delicious treat lasts up to 49 days, compared to 21 days of the closest competitor – meaning less waste and more savings!

The yogurt is a great addition to the family’s meals with features including:
·         Excellent Source of Calcium and Vitamin D
·         99% Fat Free
·         Contains 6g of protein per serving
·         No artificial flavors or colors"

Schwan's Dinner Review

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
Betsy and I had the chance to try out dinner from Schwan's.  We received a 7 pound ham, a box of au gratin potatoes, a triple berry, apple, rhubarb pie, and some vanilla ice cream.

The ham was boneless and pre-sliced, after I figured out how to make sure everything was ready at the same time I went to work preparing our meal.  Everything turned out looking really good.

I made some asparagus to go along with our dinner.

The ham was very tasty and the potatoes were creamy and cheesy and with a nice crunchy top crust.  The prep couldn't be easier, you barely have to do anything and there were plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day.

As easy as dinner was to make, dessert was even easier.

You just cut some slits in the pie crust and wrap the edges in foil to keep them from burning, I used my pie crust shield.

The crust turned out a nice golden brown.

After letting it cool, we cut into this jam packed pie, that is full of fruit.

And of course when you add the ice cream you make pie even better.

Everything turned out great, getting everything pre-made means making dinner is easy.  Ordering from Schwan's is a great option when you want to make your family a complete dinner, but don't necessarily have the time.  Place an order now and turn any given weeknight into Sunday night dinner or to give mom the day off from cooking on Mother's Day!

Thanks for reading.

Product Review - Schwan's Frozen Broccoli

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
Betsy and I were given the chance to try out some frozen broccoli florets that are available from Schwan's.

We decided that we should just do more than serve it as a side dish (although they are great fried in some olive oil with shredded cheddar cheese and some peanuts), so we went with two different meals that incorporate broccoli.

The first thing we had was some homemade broccoli cheese soup.  You will need around 10oz of the broccoli, a 10.5oz can of chicken soup with rice, 1 1/4 cups chicken broth, and 8 to 16oz of velveeta.

Start by putting the broccoli in a large pot and cover it with water.  Bring the water to a boil over medium/high heat.  Let the broccoli boil for one minute then remove it from heat and drain the water.

While the broccoli is cooking, cut the velveeta into cubes.

Add the canned chicken soup and chicken broth to the pot with the broccoli.  Bring the broth to a boil over medium/high heat, stirring occasionally.  Allow it to boil for 2 minutes.

Now is your chance to breakout one of those kitchen gadgets you got as a wedding or house warming gift and have maybe wondered what you would use it for, your emersion blender.

You can also use a food processor or regular blender.  Using your kitchen gadget of choice, puree the soup, making sure all the broccoli gets chopped up to your desired size.  Return the pureed soup to the pot.

Add the cubed velveeta to the pot, the more velveeta you use, the thicker your soup will be.

Put the pot over medium heat and stir in the cheese until it melts.

We served our soup with some bread on the side.

The soup was creamy and delicious, I look forward to making it again.

The second meal we made using the frozen broccoli florets from Schwan's was a cheesy chicken and stuffing bake.  You will need a chicken flavored stuffing mix, 1 1/2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, around 14oz of frozen broccoli florets, thawed and drained, 1 can condensed cream of chicken soup, 1/2 cup of milk, and 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese.

Cut the chicken into 1 inch size pieces.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and prepare the stuffing according to the directions on the box.

Put the chicken, broccoli, soup, milk, and cheese into a 13x9 baking dish and mix them to combine.

Top the mixture with the prepared stuffing.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, making sure the chicken is cooked through.

We served it with a side of roasted asparagus.

The stuffing provided a nice crunchy layer to the creamy chicken, broccoli, and cheese layer.  Betsy really liked this dinner, I think we will be adding it to the rotation.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas for incorporating broccoli into your meals, maybe hiding it from any little ones that don't like to eat their veggies.

Thanks for reading.

Seapak Popcorn Fish Review

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
Betsy and I had the opportunity to try Seapak's new breaded fish treat, Popcorn Fish.  Which is available in your grocers freezer section, or from Schwans.

There are 50 Popcorn Fish in this resealable bag, so you can choose to make a lot or a little.

I checked out the SeaPak website for some preparation tips.  I decided to go beyond tartar sauce, and found recipes for three different dipping sauce options.

The first was a Creamy Honey Mustard Sauce.  Mix 6TBS Mayo, 1TBS Dijon Mustard, 1TBS Honey, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.

The second sauce was a Chipotle Dipping Sauce.  Mix 1/2 cup Mayo, 1-2 Chili Peppers in Adobo (seeded and diced), and 2tsp Garlic Powder in a bowl.

The third sauce was a Spicy Maple Sauce.  Combine 1/2 cup Maple Syrup, 1TBS Ginger, 1tsp Garlic Powder, 1/2tsp Red Pepper Flakes, and 1/4tsp Salt in a sauce pan and bring to a bowl.  Once boiling remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes.

I prepared the sauces while the fish was baking.  For maximum crispiness, make sure to turn the fish over half way through the cooking time.  This is how they look cooked.

We enjoyed the fish with the prepared dipping sauces.

Betsy preferred the Creamy Honey Mustard sauce, she liked that it was sweet.  I liked the Chipotle Dipping Sauce best, I like things a little spicy, you could make it more or less spicy by adding or subtracting some peppers.

No matter what sauce you used, the fish was crispy on the outside but remained tender and flaky on the inside, the pieces are a good size as well.  We are looking forward to finishing off the bag later.

Thanks for reading.  Enjoy.

-Mr. Betsy

Product Review: Casa Di Bertacchi - Authentic Italian Style Beef Meatballs

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
Betsy and I had the chance to review Casa Di Bertacchi - Authentic Style Beef Meatballs.  The meatballs are fully cooked and come frozen in a 6 pound bag that is available for home delivery from Schwan's (schwans.com).

Each meatball weighs approximately 5/8 oz, which means you get about 150 meatballs in each bag.  So it is big enough to feed plenty of people at a large party, or you could take advantage of the resealable bag and only use a few meatballs at a time.

We decided to make the meatballs with one of our favorite kitchen appliances, our slow cooker.  I put the frozen meatballs in the slow cooker in the morning, set it on low, and let it go for 7 hours.

I enjoy using the slow cooker because it is so nice to come home from being out and be greeted with the wonderful smell of a cooking dinner.  After seven hours, I mixed in a bottle of honey bbq sauce and let it go for another hour.

You could just serve them like this, but we decided to serve them on sub rolls.  I picked up the bread from Jimmy John's.

Just slice the bread up and add the meatballs, you could also add some other veggies, like onion, mushroom, or anything else that you fancy.

After making the bbq meatball subs, we still have plenty of meatballs left to enjoy in other meals.  It is pretty hard to go through 6 pounds of meatballs in one sitting.

Schwan's Home Service - Fresco by Scotto Baked Ziti Review

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!
I hate cooking for my family.  I shouldn't say hate...maybe have a strong dislike for it sounds better!  It isn't even the cooking that gets me, it's the planning!  I was thrilled when Schwan's gave me the opportunity to do a review on a full meal!  Schwan’s Home Service gives you a break in the kitchen, with entrees, sides and desserts all ready in minutes!

I was able to review the new Baked Ziti, Fresco by Scotto. This delicious Scotto family recipe is a rich combination of three cheeses (Ricotta, Mozzarella and Parmesan) baked with ziti pasta and a flavorful tomato sauce that is ready in 30 minutes.  My twenty two month old kept asking for more and more and more!  He was a complete mess afterwards, but it was so yummy that he couldn't help himself.  We couldn't help ourselves either.  It was a great amount to feed a family of four!
As a side we were able to review the Five Cheese Garlic French Bread, which was DELICOUS!  There wasn't a person in this house that didn't want a piece of their own!  The MicroSteam Baby Broccoli Florets were great as well!  Even my four year old son asked for seconds of this side!  For a yummy dessert, we had some of Schwan's Chocolate Ice Cream.  Yum...Enough said!  Who doesn't like a tasty bowl of chocolate ice cream after a yummy meal?!?
I love Schwan's and their ability to take the planning off the table for crazy busy families like ours!  They're reasonably priced and need I say, YUMMY?!?

Schwan's Cyber Sale starting 11/25!

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!

Schwan's is having a hot Cyber Sale starting November 25 and running through the 29th.  Get $10 off your order of $60 or more!

Around this time of year, high quality convenience foods are especially nice.  Having house guests for several nights in a row can add up to a lot of meals and a lot of work. Even finding time to cook dinner every night during the holidays when people are cramming in shopping, wrapping gifts, running to holiday get togethers, can be difficult. Having a hearty enchilada dinner or a great chicken pot pie ready-to-go in the freezer can be a life saver!

Thanks, My Evansville Mommy!
